SHIRE FIGHTER PRACTICE The populace of the shire regularly gather to conduct classes on period combat and practice our skills. Please contact the Shire's Knight Marshal for exact times, to verify weather/attendance, or to arrange to borrow armour. If you would like to receive regular updates on fighting-related activities, please contact the Knight Marshal to subscribe to his private mailing list... Our regular practices are held on Tuesdays and Sundays in Basingstoke. Tuesday PracticeThe Tuesday practice is from about 8pm to 10pm at Aldworth Science College, Basingstoke. The site is one of the halls in the college and we share the space with some re-enactor groups. When you park go in through the main door and turn right into the hall.Cost is currently £2 per person per session. DirectionsFrom the M3 northbound - exit at J7 (A30, Basingstoke SW), turn left along the A30 towards Basingstoke. Carry on along the A30 across two roundabouts. At the Brighton Hill roundabout, turn left onto Western Way. The entrance to the school is 200 yards on the left. Turn left through the gate and find parking. From the M3 southbound - exit at J6 (A30/A339 Basingstoke/Reading). Head up the spur road to the Black Dam roundabout. Turn left along the A30/Ringway South. At the 2nd roundabout, turn left onto the A30/Winchester Road. At the Brighton Hill roundabout, turn right (5th exit) onto Western Way and follow the directions above. From Reading/A33, either turn left (Ringway East) towards the M3, then at Black Dam roundabout, turn right along A30/Ringway South and follow directions above. From Newbury/A339, follow directions as for Sunday practice, but turn right at the Winchester Road roundabout taking the A30 south, then, at the Brighton Hill roundabout, turn right onto Western Way. From Aldermaston/A340, follow directions as for Sunday practice (turning right option), but again, turn right at the Winchester Road roundabout as for the Reading directions.
Aldworth Science College, Sunday PracticeThe Sunday practice is from 10am to noon at the Rucstall Community Centre, Basingstoke. The site is a small hall, with stage (please use the stage for armouring), next to "Raj of Blackdam" as shown below. The cost for the site is £20 a week (£10 an hour), which is split across the participants each week. DirectionsFrom the M3, take exit 6 and head north. At the first roundabout (Black Dam), take the first exit going west on A30/Ringway South. At the next roundabout (Hackwood) take the first exit, going south on A339/Hackwood Road. At the next roundabout, take the first exit going east on Grove Road. Follow Grove Road around the curve to the right, and the next left is Holbein Close. You can find an online map here. From the A33/Reading, at the Oakridge roundabout, take the A339/Ringway East towards the M3. At the Black Dam roundabout, take the 3rd exit (A30/Ringway South) and follow the directions above. From Newbury/A339, at the first major roundabout, take 1st exit to the A340/Ringway West. Go straight across the next two roundabouts. At the 2nd roundabout, the road becomes the A30 heading east towards Hook. At the Hackwood roundabout, take the 3rd exit on the A339/Hackwood Road and follow the directions above. From Aldermaston/A340, it's a 50/50 choice - either turn left at the junction with the A339 Ringway, continue on that road to the junction with the A33, stay on the Ringway and follow the directions from Reading; or, turn right, and at the next roundabout, turn left and follow the directions from Newbury.
