ABOUT THE SCA What is the SCA? Our homepage provides a brief intro, or click here for a longer introduction to our organization... You can also download a leaflet created by Katherine la Paumière with her description of the SCA here. If you'd like to see some pictures of our activities, please click here. Who can participate? Anyone! You don't need to be a history graduate or have any particular skills to get started. Families are welcome, and some events even have activities designed specifically for children. Nor we do impose historical biases on who can participate in what activities - for example women are perfectly welcome to join in combat. What can I do? Activities in the SCA are generally broken down into two areas: "combat" and "arts and sciences". They generally span any activities that would have been performed in medieval times. We try to hold regular classes/practices that allow individuals to focus on a particular activity. We also hold larger events where everyone comes together for tournaments, feasts, or other functions - sometimes just for the day but sometimes longer (usually a weekend). Nor do you have to re-create all aspects of medieval life yourself; most of our members specialize based on their areas of interest. How do I get started? Give us a call or drop us a line if you'd like more information - or just show up at one of our regular shire activities or events. There are also mailing lists, which are used to disseminate information about our group. To receive up-to-date information on what we're doing, you can subscribe to: West Dragonshire (Southern England) Insulae Draconis (United Kingdom) Drachenwald (Europe)
